Cora Bell
Presidential Candidate
I’ve been actively involved in student leadership positions throughout my time at BCIT, including:
By serving in these roles, I’ve learned a lot about the rules and policies that affect BCIT students and I feel strongly that we can do more to support you during your studies. In my current role, I’ve championed increased accountability for team members so that we’re representing you effectively and responsibly managing student fees. This includes creating and working to implement a binding Code of Conduct for student representatives before the end of my term.
The role of SA President is a significant leadership position that requires diplomatically and tactfully navigating the relationship with BCIT while going to bat for students. At the same time, it requires a thoughtful, fair approach to leading the BCITSA executive team. In other words, it’s a role that benefits from experience. If elected, I know that I can accomplish a lot for students and improve student life in meaningful ways while also holding BCIT accountable for their decisions.
Please vote before April 4th at 12pm and feel free to reach out to me with any questions: cbell84@my.bcit.ca
Xavier Delaney
Presidential Candidate
My name is Xavier Delaney, and I’m excited to be running as your Student President!
I’ve been deeply involved within the Student Association, starting as Set Rep to Councillor, and now as your elected Vice President Student Experience. My goal is to make BCIT a community that you are proud to be part of every single day.
Why me?
As VP Student Experience, I expanded the club’s program, fought for better funding for students attending competitions and developed strong leadership and advocacy skills regarding student issues at BCIT.
As an Accounting Degree student with industry experience, I can leverage my strong financial and managerial skills to manage budgets and support organizations efficiently.
Working with Employment and Social Development Canada and the Social Development Committee, I tackle accessibility and financial support issues, giving me the governmental expertise to navigate bureaucracy to ensure things get done.
My Plan for You
Bring life back to the pub – The pub still closes at 5 PM—let’s fix that! If elected, I’ll push for 9 PM closing hours and more regular events like trivia nights to create a fun space students can enjoy.
Advocate for student financial support – The economy is tough, but the SA can help. I’ll work to expand grants and financial support provided by the SA.
Support all BCIT campuses – Downtown & Specialty Campuses deserve the same student life as Burnaby! If elected, I’ll work to bring more events, services, and clubs to your campus!
Let’s bring the vibes to BCIT and make coming here a better experience!
Joseph K Yuruk
Presidential Candidate
This last year has been an incredibly turbulent time for the BCIT Student Association. Having served as Councillor of the School of Energy from September 2024 to January 2025, I’ve had the opportunity to identify critical areas of improvement that need the immediate attention of a leader dedicated to transparency, accountability, and the well-being of students.
Peers, as YOUR candidate for President, I am proud to say that I am answering your calls for new leadership at the BCIT Student Association.
When I take office, I plan to start pursuing these 3 ambitious and bold objectives:
It’s time for change at the BCITSA: Let’s get it done.
Sincerely,
Joseph K. Yuruk

Adam Matthews-Kott
Vice President Finance & Administration Candidate
I’m very proud of the things I was able to accomplish during my current term as an executive. Chairing the Student Spaces Development Committee, I managed an overall budget of $430,000 and led a number of student initiatives including:
In addition, I have been working as a bookkeeper over the last year and have a junior accounting job lined up for this summer. I believe the work experience I have gained and continue to gain along with my accounting education, will assist me greatly in the role of VP Finance and Administration.
If re-elected, I’m hoping to pursue my current initiative of commissioning a student-designed mural for Burnaby campus. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my bio. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email at chairtransportation@bcitsa.ca.
Aryan Singh
Vice President Finance & Administration Candidate
In addition to being a student, I serve as the COO of a startup company, where I have gained experience preparing financial statements, managing budgets, and making strategic decisions that contributed to significant growth over the past year. Prior to this, I spent two years in marketing, where oversaw budgets and collaborated effectively with teams. These experiences taught me essential skills such as financial literacy, teamwork, and responsibility which I will bring to this role.
Outside of academics and work, I have been gymming for nearly three years, and I am sponsored by Retaliation Project. I am also training to compete in a show next year, which has taught me the value of perseverance and consistency skills that will help me excel as your VP of Finance and Administration.
While I can’t predict the future, I can promise this: If elected, I will work tirelessly to make this an incredible year for BCIT students and leave positive, lasting change for future generations. I am committed to listening to your ideas, advocating for your interests, and managing our finances with transparency and efficiency.
Thank you for considering me for this role.
Let’s make this year unforgettable.

Shervin Laghaie
Vice President External Candidate
Hey BCIT! I’m Shervin, and I’m excited to run for VP External because I believe our voices deserve to be heard—on campus, in the community, and at the highest levels of government. As a BCIT Student Association Councillor, I’ve already been advocating for students, and now I want to take that further by ensuring we have a say in policies that affect our education and future careers.
My goal is to strengthen BCIT’s connections with industry leaders, government officials, and alumni to create more opportunities for students—whether that’s better funding, improved resources, or expanded career pathways. I want to ensure BCIT students are represented in every decision that impacts us.
Let’s make sure our concerns don’t just stay within campus walls. Vote for me, and I’ll make sure BCIT students are heard loud and clear.

As a candidate for VP Equity & Sustainability, I want to make BCIT a place where ALL students feel included, supported, and part of a strong community. I believe the most important aspect of student life here at BCIT is their Mental Health. My vision is to improve students mental health by increasing food banks and implementing sanitary mask stations.
Why, you ask?
Just imagine those students who are struggling with their finances, the easiest option for them is to cut their budget for food. BCIT provides a food bank, but that is only once a week. What about the other days? Staying hungry can have a very negative impact on students’ mental health. My solution is to collaborate with nearby grocery stores & restaurants who have a surplus of food and redirect that food to the students that need it. That directly reduces food waste and boosts students’ mental health, promoting equity and creating a sustainable environment.
Second problem is getting sick—it’s something we can’t control, but the impact? That’s a whole different story. Missing lectures can set students back big time, both academically and mentally. That’s why many choose to power through, showing up to class even when they’re feeling under the weather. The problem with this is that it only speeds up the spread, making more students sick before they even realize it. So, how do we fix this? By implementing Sanitary Mask stations across campus. Easy access to masks means students can protect those around them without skipping class. It’s a small step with a huge impact—keeping everyone healthier, minimizing disruptions, and making sure no one’s mental well-being suffers just because of a common cold.
So, what makes me different?
I offer a strong plan and commitment for change. Not only for these issues, but also to enhance the well-being of students across BCIT. So my question to you is, would you like to help me make a change at BCIT?
Dean Menkis
Vice President Equity & Sustainability Candidate
I grew up in the foster care system, and I learned there that if my needs weren’t being met then I had to advocate for myself. I think it would make past me extremely happy if they knew that I was advocating for others as well.
If elected I will:
Your vote matters. It’s your vote shaping BCIT’s future. Spend it on someone who wants to make real meaningful and possible change here on campus.
If you want to be green, vote Dean!

If elected, I will introduce an umbrella swap system at BCIT, where students can borrow umbrellas by simply tapping their student card, similar to the library system. I also plan to bring a thrift store and host Zero Waste Week on campus, promoting sustainability and creating networking opportunities. Additionally, I will work to establish more scholarships (small financial awards) for students who achieve a grade of 85 or higher, regardless of their background or race, ensuring that BCIT supports everyone in pursuing a brighter future.
Furthermore, I am exploring the idea of creating a fund specifically for engineering students working on capstone projects aimed at increasing sustainability at BCIT.

Chair of the School of Health Sciences Candidate
I am a current councilor for the School of Health Sciences (2024-2025) and the Set Representative for my class, I am deeply committed to advocating for the needs of my fellow students. As a candidate for Chair of Health Sciences, my passion lies within the expansion and enhancement of student resources to ensure that all students have equal access to the support they need to succeed.
If elected, I intend to advocate for better accessibility resources for students, and accredited accomidatory tools. Additionally, I plan to collaborate with the Health and Wellness Center to create more opportunities for students to de-stress, access the food pantry, and establish other essential resources that promote overall well-being.
Furthermore, one of my goals is to enhance the use of Health Science spaces by creating more opportunities for engagement and collaboration. I intend to organize events dedicated to each of our key Interprofessional Healthcare departments, including the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), the Canadian Nursing Association, and several more.
I hope these events will not only celebrate the vital work these departments do but also foster a greater sense of community within our healthcare teams. Together, we can highlight and honor the professionals within our school who are dedicated to improving healthcare, while providing opportunities for students to learn, network, and grow within the healthcare field.
As a community, let’s invest in our learning today to empower and evoke change into tomorrow’s healthcare.

Chair of the School of Energy Candidate
With over 20 years of experience as a research scientist and technician in a multinational biopharmaceutical company, I have worked in laboratory management, molecular biology, pre-clinical research, and automation. I advanced from laboratory technician to automation lab manager, leading operations, developing robotic systems, programming over 100 automated processes, and mentoring 16 co-op interns.
I bring expertise in leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration to the student council. I set high standards, act decisively, and relentlessly pursue results. At the same time, I believe in listening, compassion, and standing up for those I represent. With a no-nonsense, can-do attitude and unwavering commitment to professionalism, enthusiasm, and teamwork, I am determined to strengthen the student council and create a foundation for real impact.
Nina Lu
Chair of the School of Energy Candidate
As a candidate for SoE Chair, her top priority is to create opportunities for students to connect and thrive beyond just academics. SoE students have the talent to accomplish incredible things- but they’re often held back by staying within their own majors. Real-world innovation happens when disciplines intersect. Nina aims to break down these barriers by establishing a collaborative workspace where SoE students can network, experiment, and push the boundaries of their learning.
With experience advocating for peers as a set representative, she has actively addressed student concerns about challenging instructors, difficult coursework, and ensuring student voices are heard. She’s committed to fighting for student rights, wellness, and fairness, while also supporting clubs and initiatives that enrich the student experience. With her as your chair, you can focus on your studies without unnecessary obstacles, knowing that your concerns will be taken seriously.
The previous council worked hard to address issues like parking agreements, rising student fees, and campus security concerns- yet these problems persist. Students still face broken lockers, disorganized instruction, and unfair costs that add to their burdens. It’s time for real action and demand tangible solutions. She’s not here to add to the noise. Nina’s here to solve what others keep circling- and she plans to prove it, not promise it.
SoE is already making waves, but there’s still untapped potential. Nina is ready to advocate, innovate, and push for real solutions- because students deserve more than just promises.
Vote Nina for SoE Chair- because real change starts with action.

Edro Gonzales
Chair of the School of Computing & Academic Studies Candidate
Before BCIT, I worked as a Software Developer in the industry. I returned to school to formalize my education in the Computer Systems Technology program and strengthen my skills. Having navigated both breaking into tech and working in it, I know what students need to succeed and how to bridge the gap between education and real-world careers.
As Chair, I will create more opportunities for students to connect with industry leaders by leveraging my network, organizing industry-driven events, and inviting professionals to share their insights. Visibility and mentorship are key in today’s competitive job market, and I will ensure students gain direct exposure to experts who can guide them toward success.
I will also expand career-focused initiatives like the LeetCode check-in club, using my experience with technical interviews to help students sharpen their problem-solving skills. Beyond technical prep, I will advocate for hands-on training and workshops to align students’ skills with industry expectations, ensuring they are ready for co-ops, internships, and full-time roles.
My industry experience gives me insight into what employers look for in new hires, and I will use that knowledge to strengthen career readiness initiatives. If elected, I will work to ensure students have the resources, skills, and connections needed to confidently transition into the workforce.

Polina Omelyantseva
Chair of the School of Computing & Academic Studies Candidate
My name is Polina; I’m a Term 3 CST student who’s been working hard to support our community as a Set Rep since my first term. I’ve always made it a point to go out of my way to ensure BCIT staff hear our voices, and I’m committed to doing more for all of us.
Outside of representing my cohort, I’m an executive in several clubs. I serve as Vice-President at Coding for All and Computing Club, and I’m proud to be the President of Women in Computing. The events that I worked on as an executive at those clubs have given me plenty of practice in organising events and handling responsibilities – skills I know will be useful as Chair of the School of Computing and Academic Studies.
I’m planning some changes that I am confident will really improve our student life.
For instance, I want to bring back the energy of our Hackathons. I plan to reinstate the usual BCITSA March Hackathon, which was unfortunately cancelled this term, and also to team up with our computing clubs to help them host an additional hackathon earlier in the year! I believe this dual approach will create more opportunities for everyone to get involved, create some cool projects for our resumes, and learn lots of new things!
I also want to strengthen the connection between our campuses. It’s been disappointing to see students from the Downtown Campus miss out on events held at Burnaby, because of distance and inconvenience. I have many great friends at Downtown, and together we can integrate their campus more into the overall student life.
Another big thing that I will work towards is bringing back Spring Break. With no break after midterms, at the end of the school year the semester just feels endless, and I’ve heard from many students that the new, breakless schedule SoCAS staff implemented is just too gruelling. I’m committed to advocating for the return of a much-needed Spring Break so we can all recharge, relax, and come back with renewed energy to ace those finals next year.
Another idea I’m passionate about is reviving the mentorship program. The Computing Club had tried something similar before, but it didn’t take off because of some avoidable shortcomings. I believe in the idea, and with what I’ve learned from their experience, I’m ready to start it again, this time done right. The program will connect seniors (year 2 and above) with first-years to make the transition into studying at BCIT a lot easier and less stressful, and most importantly, to help build lasting connections among the intakes.
I’m also interested in collaborating with other Chairs to create more cross-school events. There are plenty of opportunities to connect with students outside our immediate circle. This year I’ve found that there are a lot of exciting experiences and opportunities that come from connecting and collaborating with students from other schools and I’m excited for everyone to experience that too!
In voting for me, you are voting for someone who is dedicated to making practical, positive changes for all BCIT students. Please feel free to reach out to me at polina.socas@gmail.com or ytyz on Discord if you have any ideas or questions! I am excited to join the Student Executive team and work towards BCITSA’s mission to serve all BCIT students to the absolute best of my ability.
Thank you for your support and consideration,

As a self-taught front end developer and advanced CSS designer who previously ran my own WordPress development company, I understand that professional growth comes in many unexpected shapes. Having returned to education at 35, I bring a depth of life experience and professional insight that goes beyond conventional academic trajectories. My platform is built on creating opportunities for all students, including those who may not fit the traditional mold.
I’m committed to:

Elena Jou Luo
Chair of the Downtown Campus Candidate
If elected, I will bring career fairs and networking events to Downtown Campus. Many students struggle to attend career fairs in Burnaby, so I will push for on-campus employer meetups, where industry professionals visit our campus for casual career discussions. I will also organize industry-specific networking sessions for students in tech, business, and other fields, making job opportunities more accessible.
A strong community matters. Instead of vague promises about “more events,” I will introduce BCIT Network Hub, a structured speed-friending and networking event to help students build friendships and professional relationships. I will focus on pre-exam wellness events featuring therapy dogs, meditation, and art therapy to help students manage stress. I will collaborate with local businesses to host and sponsor events that reflect student interests, such as board game nights, social mixers, and cultural events.
By fostering a stronger, more connected campus, I will ensure that Downtown students are seen, heard, and supported.

Advocate for student financial support – The economy is tough, but the SA can help. I’ll work to expand grants and financial support provided by the SA.

This last year has been an incredibly turbulent time for the BCIT Student Association. Peers, as YOUR candidate for President, I am proud to say that I am answering your calls for new leadership at the BCIT Student Association.
When I take office, I plan to start pursuing these 3 ambitious and bold objectives:
It’s time for change at the BCITSA: Let’s get it done.

As your VP of Student Experience I will run a quarterly school-wide survey to understand exactly what initiatives students want and don’t want. I will keep contact with every club to help drive their executives towards their goals, and organize exciting campus events.

As VP External, I plan to focus on creating more networking opportunities, so students can connect with industry professionals, potential mentors, and future employers. Let’s work together to expand opportunities, foster growth, and build a stronger, more connected community!

College life can be stressful, expensive, and sometimes lonely, but it doesn’t have to be. As a candidate for VP Equity & Sustainability, I want to make BCIT a place where ALL students feel included, supported, and part of a strong community. Together, we can create an environment where every voice matters, and everyone has the resources they need to succeed.

Over the past three years, I have had the opportunity to engage in various student initiatives within the Department of Health Sciences.

Chair of the School of Computing & Academic Studies Candidate
Thank you for your support and consideration,
Polina Omelyantseva

Chair of the School of Computing & Academic Studies Candidate
As a self-taught front end developer and advanced CSS designer who previously ran my own WordPress development company, I understand that professional growth comes in many unexpected shapes. My path demonstrates that perceived failures are not endpoints, but valuable learning experiences that ultimately shape our success.
Having returned to education at 35, I bring a depth of life experience and professional insight that goes beyond conventional academic trajectories. My platform is built on creating opportunities for all students, including those who may not fit the traditional mold.
I’m committed to:
My goal is to show that your past does not predict your potential. Together, we can build an educational environment that embraces all paths to success, including yours.

Sandy Lu
Chair of the Downtown Campus Candidate
