About Our Centre
Learn About the BCITSA Childcare Centre
The BCITSA Childcare Centre, which opened in January 2013, was built to meet the recognized need for on-campus childcare for the BCIT community. The initiative was a collaboration between the BCIT Student Association and the BCIT leadership team, supported by student fees. This was a crucial step to ensure that parents with young children could access the excellent educational opportunities at BCIT. Because of this, placement priority is given to BCIT students, faculty, and staff, but families from the greater community are also welcome as space permits. Once enrolled, a child will not be displaced by the enrollment needs of a BCIT community member.
Our Rooms
The centre has three welcoming and distinct rooms designed to support the development of different age groups:
- The Little Acorn Room caters to toddlers aged 18 to 36 months.
- The Little Duckling Room and the Ladybug Room are both for children aged 3 to 5 years.
Our Philosophy and Environment
At the BCITSA Childcare Centre, we strive to promote your child’s emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development. We believe every child has the right to learn at their own pace in a safe, secure, and encouraging environment. Our childcare offers a play-based program that incorporates fun ways for children to learn math, science, language, music, and art. The centre is located on the picturesque BCIT campus alongside Guichon Creek and features a fully fenced and landscaped play area with an outdoor sandbox, climbing wall, slide, bike track, and covered areas for rainy days.

Monthly Fees
BCITSA Childcare Centre Fee Structure
For the BCIT academic year of September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026.
As of December 1, 2022, the BC Government has changed the CCFRI amount so that children under 36 months will have the fee reduced by $900 per month, and children over 36 months in our 3-5 centre will have the fee reduced by $545 per month. In the infrequent circumstance where the new CCFRI amount would reduce the fee to below $200 per month, the BC government has directed Childcare providers to have a minimum fee of $200 per month as this aligns with the BC Government policy of $10 per day Childcare. For parents who need additional help covering the costs of child care, extra support continues to be available through the Province’s Affordable Child Care Benefit. The new fee reductions and the Affordable Child Care Benefit work together to lower the costs of childcare fees for families and can be “stacked” to maximize the amount of savings. Please note that eligibility and rates available under the Affordable Child Care Benefit are not changing. For more information please go to How to Access Child Care – Province of British Columbia (gov.bc.ca).
As long as the BC Government is providing a childcare fee subsidy in the form of the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI), children under 36 months will have the childcare fee reduced by $900 per month and children over 36 months will have the fee reduced by $545 per month.

Your child should arrive at childcare no later than 9:30. If your child arrives after 9:30, they will be arriving during a transition time, and it will be very difficult for them to settle in.
Your child does not need to sleep; however, they are required to have a quiet time in the nap room. This is part of our program and a licensing requirement. If your child falls asleep, we will allow them the rest that they need.
But my child doesn’t nap at home.
Remember children are mentally stimulated all morning at childcare. They need this time to rest their bodies and recharge for the busy afternoon.
