Meet Larry Jung!

I’ve been working in the career development profession since 2006.  Over the years, I’ve considered myself fortunate to receive the trust of countless university students, alumni, and working professionals from virtually all industries.

As a BCIT Marketing grad with many years of local work experience, I have diverse knowledge in many areas of business including marketing, entrepreneurship, accounting, management/leadership, HR, logistics and supply chain, social media, and communications.  On the technical side, I’m also familiar with some engineering, IT, Information Communications Technology.  While supporting job seekers and career transition in public service, I learned to help trades folks including students and alum from the BCIT Heavy Duty, Motive and Aerospace programs. My broad base of knowledge is fueled by my innate sense of curiosity and passion to deliver the best services possible to job seekers from all walks of life. You could say I know a little about a lot of stuff!

What is the best part of working as a Career Specialist?

The best part of working as a Career Specialist at the SA is being part of a student’s career journey and seeing them transition into successful, meaningful careers.

My energy comes from interactions with enthusiastic youth who are eager to start their careers. While I’m one person and cannot change the world, I hope I can make a small impact by helping students take ownership of their career trajectories.

What is your proudest moment?
If I could only have one moment, I’d have to say I am most proud of the success my own children are enjoying in their career and life journeys.

What did you learn about yourself during this pandemic?
Despite having over 40 years of work experience, and living through several economic booms and downturns, I’m still learning and continually adapting to an ever-changing work landscape. I’ve learned that it is important to be driven and successful in career and life, but perhaps more importantly, it is important to be a good person and citizen and make a positive impact on the world outside of your own.

What do you like to do outside of work?
In addition to my job, I enjoy mentoring other career development professionals. There’s nothing more fun than helping others discover their career options and paths. In addition to my passion for helping others, I am a car enthusiast. I feel a sense of accomplishment after I’ve spent 10 hours detailing my Cayman S. In pre-COVID times, you’d likely find me roaming the local malls to get my shopping fix. I also enjoy having my Berne Doodle Grand-pup visit during family holiday meals that I prepare.
