BC’s 2018 Referendum on Electoral Reform

Between October 22nd and November 30th, British Columbians will be voting by mail on whether or not to change our province’s electoral system. Although your SA is officially neutral on the outcome of the referendum, we strongly encourage students to cast a ballot and have a say in the way that we elect Members of the Legislative Assembly, your elected representatives in Victoria.

Full information on how to vote, or to request a ballot, can be found at Elections BC’s webpage, here.

Additionally, each official campaign has provided their position in detail and included opportunities to learn more: “Vote PR BC,” advocating changing to a new electoral system, and “Vote No to Pro Rep,” advocating keeping the existing electoral system.

On Campus Debate

And finally, be sure to check out the SA-hosted debate on Friday November 9th, 2:00pm to 4:00pm in Council Chambers, featuring BC Liberal MLA Sam Sullivan (Vancouver False Creek) and BC NDP MLA Janet Routledge (Burnaby North).
